The team is overseen by Tom Wright, Director of Digital Student Experience, who reports directly to Prof Liz Mossop, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Student Development and Engagement. The priorities of the team are set directly by Prof Mossop and also by the Digital Education and Student Life committee, which in turn reports into the University’s senior leadership team.
The Student Experience team supports and enables a student-led approach to digital content and student engagement at the University of Lincoln. This has two key strategic aims – firstly to provide engaging content for current students focused on support and peer-to-peer advice to support transition into university, encourage retention and enhance outcomes, and secondly, giving students creating the content the opportunity to develop their skills and experience, enhancing their employability after graduation.
The team also work collaboratively with other professional service departments and academic Schools to support and encourage similar student partnership initiatives across the University and the use of digital tools and approaches to enhance the student experience.
Working in partnership with student content creators, the team oversees the Student Life website, app, YouTube and various UoLStudentLife social media accounts, along with the Learning at Lincoln website, which provides a mix of student-created tips and other resources created by academics and support services designed to support academic and study skills. The Learning at Lincoln site was developed in collaboration with the Library and was launched in 2018.
The team also oversees and supports the University’s WordPress blogging platform, providing design templates (themes), setting up sites and offering advice and guidance on content creation and site structure.
Student Life online magazine
Starting as a blog in 2016, the Student Life online magazine consists entirely of articles and videos created by students for students, with a focus on practical advice and guidance on all aspects of university life. This peer-to-peer approach enables students who work with us to share their experiences with their fellow students and promote campaigns, initiatives and the support that is available at the University through a student lens.
We also have a range of student-led Student Life social media accounts which we use to promote our latest content and to reach and engage current students with activities, events and support initiatives.
Student Life App
A recent addition at the start of the 2020/21 academic year, the Student Life app gives students an easy way of staying up to date with our latest content, as well as offering wellbeing challenges and access to support. The app is built on the UniWellbeing platform and is available for staff and students to download from the Apple and Google app stores.
Working with other departments
We have strong working relationships with many University departments and regularly collaborate to produce student-led digital resources or to create digital campaigns that convey University messaging or initiatives to students.
